Activity

  • Our story focus is ‘We All Go Travelling By’. We will post a copy of the story on dojo or you can follow the link below to access the story as a singalong!
  • Take time to watch or read the story, you could also use or you’re your own transport props (e.g. bathtub and boat water play) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSw50Jw0H34
  • Writing – Use water, conditioner or something similar to focus on moving our hands and arms, up, down, forwards, backwards and side to side. You could use trucks, cars and trains in paint to create marks too!

  • Use touch to engage in physical Maths such as rolling a small toy train or car up and down their arm whilst counting. We have been using the following instrumental songs to follow a beat, tapping or rolling on arms and legs whilst counting out loud.

  •  You could engage in water play using boats and toy people, count the people onto the boat. Similarly, you could use mud (mixing cocoa powder and water) and do the same activity but using a car or truck. When getting into your own car or public transport, count the people you can see!
  • Make your own edible transport, such as a melon boat or log roll cake train and count the people or wheels (you could use biscuits).

  • Focusing on the words and actions ‘push’ and ‘pull’ engage in boat water play, toy trains and train tracks and toy cars. Play pushing and pulling them through mud, dough, slime or anything sensory and messy!
  • You could use action rhymes such as row, row, row your boat and encourage your child to feel the physical body movements of pushing and pulling by gently pulling and pushing in a rowing motion.

  • Encourage your child to sign/ use symbols to request what they want / need – please see child’s class teacher if you need symbols for home. · Encourage your child to use the signs- MORE and HELP and I WANT…
  • Choose a singing hands song to do at home and try to copy the signs. Focus on one or two to start off with and then repeat. This half term we are looking at the singing hands song/rhyme ‘There was a Princess long ago’ (follow the link below) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMlzCy2qM2k

To find Singing Hands videos type ‘Singing hands songs’ into youtube online.

Please record any homework activities you undertake in the homework book you have received from class alternatively you can email any pictures to info@stgilesspencer.com. In the Subject box mark them for the attention of your child’s class e.g. For the Attention of  Jungle Book Class and we will print them and pop them in the book.
