  • Watch the reading of ‘Moon Landing’ together using the following link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfHmjqiSFk8 

  • Can your child tell you which is their favourite page? What do they like on the page? Can they point to the object they are talking about? 

  • Can they match the symbols or words to those in the book? · Learn the song, ‘Zoom, Zoom, Zoom’. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEHBrmZxAf8 

  • Fine motor skills: Make Pom pom planets by winding wool around a cardboard circle. 

  • Practice mark making in a tray of flour or use the tracing sheets to practice pencil control.

 

  •  Ask your child to help you prepare meals at home; as you do show them how you chop the food in half. Talk about how it is one whole piece and when you chop it, it is two halves. Or make a pizza or a sandwich together and do the same. 

  • Look for ‘moon rocks’ that may have landed in the garden. Can you weigh them? Which one feels heavy/light? Which one is heavier/lighter? 

  • Use playdough to make different sized planets. Can they label them big or small? Can your child put them in size order? When given a planet, can they make one that is bigger or smaller?

 

  • Look up to the sky when it is dark. What can you see? When back indoors, show your child pictures of the moon and the stars to explain what is there. 

  • Make a picture together that represents day and night. What are the differences?

 

  •  D&T -When your child has chosen their favourite picture in the book, make a junk model of what is in the picture together. 

  • History – Look at photos of your time over Christmas together. Can they say what happened first, next and last

 

  • Sing ‘Heads, shoulders, knees and toes’ together. Can your child name other parts of the body? 

  • Find a picture of an astronaut, cut it up and then put it back together again.

  • Can your child name the parts of the body? · Make a healthy snack together that the astronaut could eat on the way to the moon
