Gruffalo Homework

  • Share your favourite books together.

  • Watch ‘Duck in the Truck’.

  • If you have the book, look at it together and use the symbols to talk about the story. Can you make the sounds of the animals? Can you pretend to drive a car and make the sounds of the engine?

  • Practice mark making in the ‘muck’. This can be made out of cocoa powder, cornflour and water. You can do this to music too. Practice up and down first, then round and round and side to side.

 

  • Practise counting using stones/lego/sticks/pasta/counters. Use the number cards to help you to identify how many. 

  • Go on a number hunt at home or go for a walk and see numbers on house or buses.

  • Go on a shape hunt; can you take photos of some of the different shapes you find?

  • Can you drive a toy car down a ramp? How far does it go? You can use objects or footsteps to measure the distance.

 

  • Practice pushing and pulling different toys. How can you make a toy car move faster? Race toy cars down ramps around your house. 

  • Make a car park out of playdough. How hard do you have to push and pull to get the cars in and out of the playdough?

  • Go to the park and play on the swings and the roundabout. Use the symbols to reinforce the language as you push and pull.

 

  • Can you recognise different transport around derby- look out for buses, cars, and boats. Take a photo. Can you find them in your books or in pictures at home? 

  • Go outside and make a trail for your cars and toys. Stop and look at the things you can see along your trail. E.g. grass, rocks. Can you collect some and make a sensory trail that matches your trail outside?

 

  • Encourage your child to help you around the home.

  • Encourage your child how to show you the ‘help’ symbol when they need support. 

  • Look at the part of ‘Duck in the Truck’ where the animals help Duck. How can we help other people?
