Class Overview

Gruffalo class is a class of 8 children many of whom have a diagnosis of autism. We are working hard to develop our communication skills through using key words and phrases to build sentences. We love to explore our classroom environment engaging in child led activities as well as accessing adult led work. We have access to a range of different sensory equipment to enable us to be ready for learning. We look forward to seeing what this new school year brings!!

Topic Summary

Welcome back to Gruffalo class for another exciting half-term! How have we reached the last term already!

Our topic this half term is ‘Royals Rule’. This term we shall be looking at everything from Kings and Queens to castles and crowns. We shall be exploring a range of different royal artefacts and texts. During this time, we will also look at historical events and significant people from the past and present.

In English, we will be focusing our learning on the sequencing of events and developing our writing skills to ensure we have a good understanding of key punctuation and can form letters clearly and correctly. Then moving onto the correct spacing between words and capital letters.

In maths we will be focusing on fractions and decimals, we will begin to explore the concept of a half, quarter, three quarters and a whole as fractions and decimals.

In PHSE we will be looking at developing our awareness of healthy living. The children will be encouraged to think about healthy choices, healthy foods, balanced diets, and personal hygiene.

Home / School Communication

How you can support learning at home: Encourage your child to read a range of texts. Play phonic games on phase 2 letters and sounds website. Complete tasks set through ‘Family Homework’. Make sure you are signed up to Class Dojo so you can share successes and photographs with your child.

Class Dojo

As part of our Covid-secure procedures, we are unable to issue home-school diaries this year.  Government guidance say's that schools must quarantine any books that come into school from home for up to 72 hours.  All home-school communication will therefore need to move over to Class Dojo.  You should expect to receive home-school communication from your child's class team approximately three times per week.  This will provide a fine balance between staff workload and their well-being whilst ensuring you are kept regularly up-to-date on your child's experience in school.  We must however politely remind parents/carers that staff will not be expected to read and/or respond to any Class Dojo messages in the evenings, at weekends or during the school holidays.

Thank you to those parents who have already signed up for this - your child's class team will be in touch if you have not yet logged in.

There is normally member of the class team available to speak to between 8:15 - 8:40 am or 3:00 - 3:30 pm, please phone the school office and ask for a member of staff from the class if you wish to speak to us.
