Class Overview

Topic Summary

Welcome back! We hope you had a lot of fun over the half term break. This half term our topic is ‘A long time ago…locally’ during which we explore the romans!!!

In English we will exploring a range of traditional tales, such as the Roman traditional tale Romulus and Remus. We will focus on exploring the sequence of the story, how the characters feel within the older texts, focusing on facial expressions and how different situations affect them. Later in the term, the children will learn more about the Romans, what they did for us and exploring Roman artefacts. Alongside this, we continue to learn Set 1 sounds of Read, Write, Inc in phonics, encouraging the children to sound out and recognise the sounds. We will also continue with developing our writing skills through write dance, dough disco and mark making activities such as painting, using pens, using crayons and using chalk.

In Maths, the children will be exploring number, this will include exposure to number within the environment, practicing counting with one-to-one correspondence and using numicon and physical objects. We will then have a focus on money, exchanging coins in role-play situations and exploring patterns and shapes in geometry, In History, we will be exploring Romans further by comparing their lifestyle to our own, including their homes, clothes, entertainment and food.

In science, we will be exploring the human life-cycle, exploring our own life-cycle looking at images as a baby and how we have physically changed. During our weekly PE sessions, we will be focusing on developing our athletic skills, including throwing and hitting a ball towards a target, running, jumping and balancing. As part of our creative curriculum, we will be creating our own Roman mosaics as well as the children accessing the learning kitchen weekly to learn vital cooking skills.

Outdoor learning

PE sessions will take place each week. Please ensure a labelled PE kit is sent into school ready for these sessions. These kits can be kept in school on the children’s pegs and will be sent home at the end of each half term to be washed.

General Notices

Clothing - Please send in a spare change of clothes in case your child has an accident at school. Wellies are also very useful when it’s wet weather. Now we are in Autumn children will need a warm coat please.

Social fund contribution - We would really appreciate it if you could send a social fund contribution of £6 into school. A form will be sent out regarding this. Home / School Communication

How you can support learning at home: Please see the homework sheet which is sent out every half term. Sharing books together on a daily basis will support their reading skills and encourage the love of reading. Please keep in touch using the Class Dojo app. However, if you have any immediate concerns please phone the school office.

Class Dojo

As part of our Covid-secure procedures, we are unable to issue home-school diaries this year.  Government guidance say's that schools must quarantine any books that come into school from home for up to 72 hours.  All home-school communication will therefore need to move over to Class Dojo.  You should expect to receive home-school communication from your child's class team approximately three times per week.  This will provide a fine balance between staff workload and their well-being whilst ensuring you are kept regularly up-to-date on your child's experience in school.  We must however politely remind parents/carers that staff will not be expected to read and/or respond to any Class Dojo messages in the evenings, at weekends or during the school holidays.

Thank you to those parents who have already signed up for this - your child's class team will be in touch if you have not yet logged in.

There is normally member of the class team available to speak to between 8:15 - 8:40 am or 3:00 - 3:30 pm, please phone the school office and ask for a member of staff from the class if you wish to speak to us.
