Welcome back to Mexico class for an exciting spring term 2, we are very excited for the term ahead! As a team we hope you had a fantastic half term break!
Our topic this half term is ‘Let’s get physical’. We will also be engaging in a range of activities linked to Shrove Tuesday, British science week and world water day, Comic relief and finally Easter.
In English we will continue our focus on developing children’s letter formation and mark making. Supporting children in correctly holding their pencils and having control over the marks they make. This term we will be looking at diary writing and non-fiction texts. We will also be working hard on our phonics, listening to different letter sounds, blending and segmenting and applying when reading our non-fiction texts and diaries.
In maths we will be re-visiting number and place value, with a focus on children making groups of a specific number to support them in multiplication, division and addition. Furthermore, we will be moving onto capacity and weight for measurement and linking this to healthy eating. Finally, we will start looking at statistics focusing on tally charts and maybe even creating a few pictographs and bar charts!
The ‘Let’s get physical’ topic lends itself perfectly to science with a focus on the human body and circulatory system. Children will be using their scientific enquiry skills to explore the impact of diet, exercise, drugs and lifestyle choices on the body through a range of experiments. In addition to this some children will be looking at growth and puberty and how the body changes with age. This links well with our PHSE topic of health and hygiene. As spring approaches we hope to do lots of outdoor learning during our science lessons!
PE sessions will take place all day Thursday. We are lucky enough to be able to re-commence horse riding on a Thursday morning and so children will need warm clothes and wellies/boots. Please ensure a PE kit is sent into school ready for this session. This term we will be focusing on games over the net. This will include a range of lessons focused on volley ball, badminton and tennis. Children will also be engaging in regular yoga sessions, go noodle, jump start Johnny and a daily wake-up shake up session within class.
This term we will have Learning outside the classroom sessions on Monday morning. This is similar to Forest schools and encourages the children to explore engage with outdoor learning environments. As this is outside please ensure children come with a coat and wellies.
We have booked the minibus for a school trip on Friday January 18th where we hope to visit a Castle and explore its grounds.
We are lucky enough to have term of horse riding in which you should have already received and returned consent forms for. Horse riding starts on the 17th January.
Please send social fund contribution (£6) into school as soon as possible to enable us to begin cooking and provide daily snack. This is especially important as our class has very different dietary requirements and snack can get expensive!
You will be notified of any class trips and class assemblies by letter and also by Class Dojo.
As winter is now approaching please send a pair of wellington boots your child can keep at school. As well as a hat and gloves when necessary.

Home School Diaries
Your child has a home school diary for communication. You can expect a message from school at least 3 times a week, you are welcome to write to us as often as you chose. Messages from school will focus on academic work but if there is something specific you would like us to comment on, such as food eaten, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate this.
Thank you to those parents who have already signed up for this - we hope you are enjoying the insights into your child’s time at school. You can expect at least 1 photograph a week of your child in class as well as them receiving ‘Dojo Points’ daily. I will resend login details for those still wishing to sign up.
There is normally member of the class team available to speak to throughout the day, please phone the school office and ask for a member of staff from Mexico Class if you wish to speak to us.
