Welcome back; we hope you have had a wonderful Christmas and wish you all a very Happy and Healthy New Year! The France Class Team are looking forward to seeing you all and this term we have a new member of staff joining our team. We wish Jade all the best in her new role at St Giles.
Our topic this half term is ‘Funny Bones.’ We will be learning about people and animals.
English sessions will focus on developing our discrete reading and writing skills. The children will continue to practice their fine motor skills and will be refining their ‘writing’ through copying and tracing different writing patterns. They will continue to take part in daily reading sessions where books are shared with friends and staff and the children will be looking for specific pictures and using symbols to describe them. Some of the children will begin to predict what is happening next. Speaking and listening will be enhanced through cross curricular activities such as Science week and through continued Intensive Interaction and Attention Autism sessions.
In Maths we will be learning about sorting and matching objects and 1-1 correspondence. The children will also be beginning to identify numbers and the term ‘How many?’ France class will also be improving our knowledge of size and special awareness.
This topic enables us to engage in a number of different Science and PSHE concepts relating to humans and animals. We will be exploring how humans and animals move, eat and behave and the children will be learning about healthy eating and feelings. In order to fully engage with our outdoor learning sessions, please send in wellingtons and warm outdoor wear as we will be learning outdoors as much as we can. Information about trips will be sent out in due course. If you have any questions or require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the class team at any time.
Becky (Class Teacher), Sam, Louise, Tina and Jade (Teaching Assistants)
We will be utilising our outdoor learning area daily for work sessions with interesting activities and resources to support our topic each term. We will be going out on trips in the community on Monday mornings, please ensure your child has warm and suitable clothing for that day.
As per the above, please make sure children have appropriate and warm clothing to suit the season.
Please send social fund contribution (£6) into school as soon as possible to enable us to cook and provide daily snack.
As winter is here please send a pair of wellington boots your child can keep at school. As well as a hat and gloves when necessary.
- If your child is absent please phone the school office as soon as possible.
- If you have any messages for the teacher please put it in the Home/School diary.
- A medical notification form needs to be filled out for medical appointments during school time please, so that your child’s attendance percentage is not affected.
- P.E. will take place at least once a week; please send in your child’s P.E. kit at the beginning of the half term. We will send it home during the holidays.
- France class will be swimming every Thursday afternoon until Easter, please send in a swim suit, towel and swim nappies on this day.

Home School Diaries
Your child has a home school diary for communication. You can expect a message from school at least 3 times a week, you are welcome to write to us as often as you chose. Messages from school will focus on academic work but if there is something specific you would like us to comment on, such as food eaten, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate this.
Thank you to those parents who have already signed up for this - we hope you are enjoying the insights into your child’s time at school. You can expect at least 1 photograph a week of your child in class as well as them receiving ‘Dojo Points’ daily. I will resend login details for those still wishing to sign up.
There is normally member of the class team available to speak to throughout the day, please phone the school office and ask for a member of staff from France Class if you wish to speak to us.
