Dear parents/carers,

Unison members

Unison have informed Derby City Council that they are carrying out further strike action following disputes regarding newly implemented pay, and terms and conditions for school support staff.

Due to the supervision requirements to support our pupils’ needs and taking in to consideration health and safety implications, I regret to inform you that the school will be closed to all pupils from 12.30pm onwardson the following dates: Mon 4th July, Tue 5th July, Wed 6th July, Thu 7th July and Fri 8th July

Those pupils who come to school via transport will be collected by transport and taken home, so please ensure that someone is at home to greet them. Pupils brought to school by a parent/carer, will need to be collected from school at 12.30pm by an appropriate adult. All pupils will be given lunch before they leave school.

I am aware that some parents/carers would like to put forward their views to Derby City Council regarding this matter. You can now do this via a dedicated e-mail address: parentcarer.query@derby.gov.uk

NUT members

In addition to the above; although linked to a completely separate matter, The National Union of Teachers (NUT) have also announced a strike day for teacher who are members. This is planned for Tuesday 5th July 2016, which also falls on one of the dates listed above. This is in relation to disputes which the NUT has with the government surrounding cuts to school budgets and workload concerns. Due to the supervision requirements to support our pupils’ needs and taking in to consideration health and safety implications, I regret to inform you that the school will be closed for a full day to all pupils on this date.

Once again I can only apologise in advance for any short term inconvenience that this may cause families. This hasn’t been a decision which has been taken lightly, but unfortunately this matter is out of the schools control.

Should any of the above change then I will notify you as soon as possible. Our school website will also keep you informed on matters too, so please check this regularly.

I would like to thank you for your continued support and co-operation during this time.

Kind regards,

Clive Lawrence
Headteacher
